Culinary Union Apprenticeship Program Selections to Take Place
Atlantic City . . . UNITE HERE Local 54, the union representing food and beverage workers in Atlantic City’s casino hotels and other hotels and restaurants will hold its auditions and selections for its two-year culinary apprentice program on Tueday, June 30, beginning at 10 a.m.
Successful applicants will work in an Atlantic City casino hotel under the supervision of mentor chefs and cooks and will undergo a two year, 4,000-hour program that includes 290 hours of classroom instruction at Atlantic Cape Community College’s Atlantic City Campus and 3710 hours of on-the-job training. During this period, apprentices will receive a salary, free uniforms, paid vacations and medical benefits.
Applicants, who are expected to come from Atlantic, Cape May, Gloucester, Ocean, Cumberland and Monmouth Counties will possess a high school diploma or GED and pass a drug test. They will furnish a portfolio including a 100-word essay, a resume and three letters of reference.
Representatives from Atlantic City’s casino hotel industry including human resources and culinary supervision will take part in the selection process.
