State BBQ Championship dates announced

North Wildwood, NJ- Don’t miss the 3-day New Jersey State Barbeque Championship and Anglesea Blues Festival Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 12, 2009, where you can indulge in mouth-watering ribs, chicken, brisket, and pork, masterfully marinated and seasoned, then smoked for hours to the point of perfection. This isn’t just grilling, this is art! Come witness barbecue teams from around the country show off their skills in a quest for the best barbeque. The 2008 Grand Champion was Dizzy Pigs from Fairfax, VA and the Reserve Champion was Jack’s Down Home BBQ from Philadelphia, PA. Find out the 2009 winners on Sunday at 3 p.m. during the awards ceremony.

Learn what it takes to cook great Barbecue from national competitive barbeque authority Big Lou Elrose, who will teach you valuable lessons in barbeque. The two hour class will cover cookers, food safety, rubs, sauces, slathers, mops, glazes, meat, butchering/trimming, cooking, and competition barbeque. Classes will be offered Saturday and Sunday at 12:30 p.m., and pre-registration is required.

But that’s not all! Nothing goes better with lip smackin' barbecue than smokin' hot Blues. The Anglesea Blues Festival, held in conjunction with the New Jersey State Barbecue Championship, will be bringing you the best national and regional Blues acts. The free Blues concerts will be held on an outdoor main stage and the schedule is as follows: Friday, July 10: Grant Austin Taylor from 4:30-7 p.m. and the Joe Moss Band from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11: PP Junior’s Midnight Boogie from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., South Southern Delta from 4-7 p.m., and Bubba Mac from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Sunday, July 12: James Day and the Fish Fry Band from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and Zydeco-A-Go-Go from 1:30-3 p.m. and again at 4-5:30 p.m. 
The festival kicks off Friday, July 10 with an opening ceremony at 4 p.m. and runs until 11 p.m. You will be able to meet on-air personalities from Cat Country 107.3. Saturday’s hours are 10 a.m.-11 p.m. with an all day live broadcast from New Jersey 101.5 featuring Big Joe Henry. There will be a Bud Light Wing Challenge at 2 p.m. and an “Anything Goes Iron Chef Contest” at 3 p.m. Sunday’s hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. with an all day live broadcast from SoJo 104.9. The judging begins at 12 noon by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and a panel of volunteer judges.
